You Are Salt and Light of the Earth

Song:

Lord I want to be like Jesus, inner my heart (2x)

Inner my heart (4x)

Lord I want to be like Jesus, inner my heart

In the gospel according to Matthew 5:13-14, Jesus Christ delivers the popular sermon on the mountain and calls you and I SALT AND LIGHT. You may have read this text severally and probably heard wonderful preaching about it. Beloved, as a son or daughter of God have you personalised this call to be SALT AND LIGHT.

The Lord said, "You are the SALT of the earth." What type of salt are you? There are different types of salt. For example, the common salt, Sea Water salt, evaporated salt for preservation of foods, industrial salt etc. How can I be salt? Of what use or uses is salt? As a child of God, who is likened by Jesus Christ to be salt, how best do you think you should live your life to justify this divine call? Salt can be both good and bad to human health. Even plants and animals require salt for survival. You are called to exhibit the qualities of good salt to mankind. Do not be a bitter salt, the type that is used in treating canned foods for preservation and sterilisation of leather for the benefit of mankind. A pillar of salt (Lot's wife), disobedience to God's call (Genesis 19:26). Many have in several ways represented bad salt through their flesh and desires instead of heeding the gentle message of the Holy Spirit of God. Be a holy salt.

You have to retain your saltiness anywhere you find yourself. This has to be in season and out of season. Both in bad and good times. So what kind of salt do you want to be in your life?

The Lord said, "You are the LIGHT of the world." Light is the opposite of dark. In the context of our heavenly race, our Lord Jesus Christ calls you the light of the world. You are supposed to shine as light for those in the dark to see and not stumble. Almost everywhere around us seems to be darkness, people do what they feel like doing without scruples. God wants you to stand out and shine. Would you make up your mind to shine even if the whole world walks in darkness? Would you make up your mind to shine even if your pastor, priest or god-parents chose to walk in the darkness?

"Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong.” (Exodus 23:2a).

God bless you
