MAKE SELF-RELIANCE YOUR TARGET

Song:

We are victorious

Yes we are victorious

Glory be to God who has given us victory

Every man is the architect of his own fortune, so goes a time-honoured maxim. Self-reliance is the weapon of youth and armour of old age. To rely on someone means to trust and confide in him; to depend, rest and lean upon him. Self-reliance is the best reliance because you are the only one whom you can constantly lean upon in every place, situation and case.

You can support yourself even when nobody else will. The idler yearns, but there is no food for him, hard workers get their fill (Proverbs 13:4).

A self-reliant person is always practical and realistic. He sees things as they are and faces them squarely. He is concerned with what can be done about troubles and difficulties and the best way to deal with everything that happens. Self-reliance leads to self-sufficiency. Richard Brandon in his Outwitting Your Inferiority Complex says, ‘The man who is self-sufficient will not depend upon the good opinion of others.

If he is liked, he will be glad of it; if he is not liked, he will be content to go on living according to his principles. His will be no self-complacent sufficiency such as businessmen might exhibit when things are going well with them, but rather the steadfast unperturbed unassuming attitude which is hard to come by.

Such a man is not eager to find how much help he can get from others; he tries to see how much he can do by himself.

23 Be sure you know the condition of your flocks,
       give careful attention to your herds;

24 for riches do not endure forever,
and a crown is not secure for all generations.

25 When the hay is removed and new growth appears
and the grass from the hills is gathered in,

26 the lambs will provide you with clothing,
and the goats with the price of a field.

27 You will have plenty of goats' milk
to feed you and your family
and to nourish your servant girls.

( Proverbs 27:23-27 ).

God bless you
