Prophetic Power in a Believer’s Word

 

Song:

Because he lives, I can face tomorrow
Because he lives, all fear is gone
Because I know he holds my future
My life is worth a living just because he lives.

A believer is someone washed with the blood of Lord, he/she believed and still believing.

28 And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues. 29Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? (1 Corinthians 12:28-29).

11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, ( Ephesians 4:11 ).

Based on the passages above, you do not have to be a prophet or hold any form of office before your word can carry prophetic power.

Characteristics of word from mouths of Prophets of old:

1. The prophets of old received the word from God:

They always received instructions from God. Negativity was never found in their words. So never say you can’t, but say, ‘I can.’

The Call of Jeremiah

  4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying,

  5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
       before you were born I set you apart;
       I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

  6 "Ah, Sovereign LORD," I said, "I do not know how to speak; I am only a child."

  7 But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.   9 Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, "Now, I have put my words in your mouth. ( Jeremiah 1:4-7, 9 ).

20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, (Ephesians 3:20).

13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13).

4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. (1 John 4:4).

2. The Prophets believed the word wholeheartedly:

And this they did even they never fully understood the entire message.

- 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14). How can a Virgin conceive? But Isaiah prophesied this.

- Jesus spoke about the temple crumbling without a stone remaining on top of one another.

- 1 Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, "As the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word." (1 Kings 17:1).

3. They spoke out the word expecting answer and fulfilment:

Samuel spoke out the word to Eli after receiving it.

13 Elijah said to her, "Don't be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small cake of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. 14 For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD gives rain on the land.' “(1 Kings 17:13-14).

7 Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. (1 Corinthians 5:7).

4. He maintains the word in the face of oppression and contradiction circumstances:

25 Micaiah replied, "You will find out on the day you go to hide in an inner room."

  26 The king of Israel then ordered, "Take Micaiah and send him back to Amon the ruler of the city and to Joash the king's son 27 and say, 'This is what the king says: Put this fellow in prison and give him nothing but bread and water until I return safely.' "

  28 Micaiah declared, "If you ever return safely, the LORD has not spoken through me." Then he added, "Mark my words, all you people!" (1 Kings 22:25-28).

Do not attract unnecessary sympathy because of problems.

5. They never disbelieve the word of God or doubted even when there seems to be delay:

  41 And Elijah said to Ahab, "Go, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a heavy rain." (1 Kings 18:41).

  17 I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done. (Psalm 118:17).

6. Lack of believe and negative words of people around them never affected them:

1 Elisha said, "Hear the word of the LORD. This is what the LORD says: About this time tomorrow, a seah of flour will sell for a shekel and two seahs of barley for a shekel at the gate of Samaria."

  2 The officer on whose arm the king was leaning said to the man of God, "Look, even if the LORD should open the floodgates of the heavens, could this happen?"
      "You will see it with your own eyes," answered Elisha, "but you will not eat any of it!" (2 Kings 7:1-2).

Conclusion:

  22"Have faith in God," Jesus answered. 23"I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. ( Mark 11:22-24 ).
